Three days to go…

Flights are booked, jabs are healing, WikiTravel has been thoroughly devoured for information, and take-off procedures are within close reach.

But where, I hear you ask, am I off to?

Resisting the strong urge to buy a giant, cumbersome map to chart my adventure, I have decided instead to plan out my worldwide route with the help of the ‘21st Century Columbus, Google Maps. Which means you can see it too. In face, you can see it, zoom it, click it and whizz around it.

Now, I have to be clear, however detailed this may all seem, most of this itinerary is fabricated purely as a result of my general excitement about maps. I have chosen many destinations for the pleasing phonetics involved in their names. Most of the routes have been chosen primarily to create nice shapes on the map. Worryingly, I fear that my research has lacked… depth.

My hope, then, is that once out there I will discover proper reasons to visit or avoid places. If so, my plans are sure to change and this map will become that horrible thing, inaccurate.

Still, it’s nice to have a plan for now.

Perhaps you fancy making some recommendations? What do you think of the route? Am I skipping by any gems? Anything I should keep an eye out for in Phnom Penh? (Phnom Penh, by the way, wins my award for Most Phonetically Pleasing Place Name of the Itinerary.) Anybody I should meet on the way?

If you feel like sharing, leave me a comment, or send a message. I’d love to hear from you.

So here it is…
