BEIJING CITY INFORMATION & ADVICE
‘HOW TO SAFELY CELEBRATE CHINESE NEW YEAR’
– Remember Remember: Safety Second, Fun First.
– Children should be fully involved with the firework-lighting process. It is of utmost importance that young people learn how to handle dangerous explosives from an early age. Parents: stand well back and let the youngsters take charge.
– Be aware that Police officers will be patrolling suburban area during the festive period. They will be looking out for overly-explosive celebratory activity. (Not to stop it – Just to watch.)
– Although there is no curfew for fireworks, remember to buy yours before the street stall shuts at midnight to avoid disappointment.
– Don’t set off fireworks right in the middle of the road. Somewhere near the pavement should be fine, if there isn’t much traffic.
– Loud bangs often set off car alarms. Consider lighting all the loudest fireworks simultaneously, in an effort to scare alarm systems into submission.
– Those of a nervous disposition should consider smoking whilst handling high explosives. It has a proven calming effect, plus – as a bonus – the butt can be used as a lighter.
– Excessive litter remnants will be greatly appreciated by city cleaners, who need the work.
